We're back with new adventures in travel, food and culture... it's been a long while, hasn't it?
First up, some photos from a trek Ian and I made through the UW Arboretum last weekend.
Lovely day with slightly swampy trails, lots of froggies and toads, and only a smattering of mosquitos. We recommend the Arboretum forest trails in late summer / early autumn to avoid bugs. The prairie sections are fairly bug-free all year round, but they're also rather sunbaked!

Eye candy
These photos are everything I love--cool, muted colors, seascapes, lonely architecture, simplicity, natural beauty. I particularly like the photos of Wales. Enjoy What Lies Beneath the Surface by Guy Sargent.

These guys
These wee green fellas have been hanging out on the window next to the outside door of my building in the evenings. Are they peepers? Some kind of tree frog? I don't know. They're very cute, though.

Whale song
I love whale song. Sometimes I listen to it as I drift off to sleep, imagining myself in a watery womb of near silence, where the only sounds are primeval vibrations and it is neither dark nor light, my cool blue cocoon gently rocking on the waves. Anyway, this story is about whales previously thought extinct that create new songs each year and sing in two tones combined, like Tuvan throat singing. Neat.
